Designapalooza: Creating Possibilities for General Education

SAVE THE DATE: Friday, January 11, 2019, 12pm-4pm

Please join faculty colleagues from across DU to generate curricular possibilities to enact the mission, vision and outcomes for the DU Common Curriculum. Hosted by Provost Haefner, the afternoon will begin with lunch, continue through collaborative design activities, feature opportunities for informal interactions, and conclude with a reception. Here’s your chance to contribute to ground floor ideas to the design phase of the GERI process. Organized by the GERI committee in collaboration with the Faculty Senate.

Fall 2018 GERI Activity:

The GERI Committee met weekly during fall 2018, including with Provost Haefner. After completing, the Inquiry Phase (analyzing the Common Curriculum and defining the MIssion, Vision and Outcomes of general education, in June, we had expected the fall to begin the Design Phase. However, it was important to determine how best ot engage fully with DU faculty. To those ends, we worked closely with Darrin Hicks and Sarah Pessin, representing the Senate. The Chancellor’s Roundtable featured conversations about general education revision processes, and the November Senate meeting included an abbreviated workshop session. We’ve worked out both a “backbone” process, including specific dates with the Faculty Senate, and a wide consultation process, featuring conversations with subject experts, departments and other constituencies on campus. We’ll upload this schedule to the GERI Portfolio site or feel free to email Doug Hesse directly at dhesse@du.edu.

How Can I Quickly Catch Up on the Work So Far?

As you know, GERI has completed a number of reports through its Inquiry Phase, reporting them regularly through emails to the faculty. If you’d like a quick synopsis of everything to date, including the process, the Mission, Vision and Outcomes, and links to reports, please see a Quick Document Prepared for the Senate.
