Project X-ITE

This cross-disciplinary collaboration between our schools of business, engineering and computer science, law, and social work supports innovation and entrepreneurship among our students and faculty, while connecting the university and community partners around projects, mentoring, and events. Project X-ITE students are busy creating: launching ideas, building startups, and finding teams to bring their visions to life. X-ITE helps students and their businesses succeed by providing resources such as the X-Lab, a hub in Margery Reed Hall where students have a dedicated co-working space; Incubator X, a program designed to support students who have an idea for a business and are ready to take the next step to becoming founders; an extensive mentoring network that provides students with guidance and coaching; access to the Innovation Floor, including 3D printers, a wood shop, photo equipment, and more; and community connections.

Pioneering Summer

X-ITE hosts an annual 10-week summer accelerator program, that helps student startups take their company to the next level. From June through August students intern, while refining and growing their startups alongside X-ITE curated mentors. Students receive financial support and guidance and candid feedback from experts, entrepreneurial founders, and business leaders within Colorado’s innovation ecosystem.

Incubator X

Incubator X is Project X-ITE’s newest program, aimed at supporting student entrepreneurs who are still in the ideation stage. Through mentorship, workshops, and co-curricular activities, students will be able to test their ideas, form teams, and build companies while receiving peer and staff support.  The student entrepreneurs who are participating in the program are helping to create and design it.

The Incubator X space is located in the Active Learning Lab at the Cable Center, on the edge of DU’s campus.  The Lab is modeled on a design thinking model, and is perfect for students to collaborate and innovate.

Incubator X is part of a collection of programs that support student-led ventures from ideation through scale-up. Feedback so far has been great. One student said:

“Of all the things I’ve seen happen over the last 4 years, Incubator X is the single most impactful and important thing this University has ever accomplished in the name of entrepreneurship. No workshop, summit or tool with have remotely close to the effect on innovation as this space will. I know it still needs a lot of work but this space is on its way toward inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators at DU.”
